Comprehensive Care

We develop individualised care plans through consultation with patients, carers, and families. This collaborative approach ensures targeted, effective care throughout our patients healthcare journey.

Townsville Day Surgery

Communicating for Safety

Effective communication is critical to ensuring patient safety. At Townsville Day Surgery, we have robust systems in place to facilitate clear, accurate, and timely communication across all levels of care.

Key components of our communication strategy include:
• Comprehensive documentation of patient records.
• Clear communication during clinical handovers to ensure continuity of care.
• Collaborative discussions with patients, carers, and families to provide the information needed for informed decision-making.

Our commitment to communication minimises risks, supports patient-centred care, and enhances the overall healthcare experience.

Before having a procedure at Townsville Day Surgery, patients are required to provide informed consent. This is a voluntary decision made by the patient to agree to receive healthcare services.
Our specialists are committed to ensuring patients are fully informed about their medical condition, the available treatment options, and the associated risks, benefits, and potential outcomes. By fostering open communication, thorough documentation, and collaborative decision-making, patients and specialists can determine the most appropriate plan together, after which informed consent is obtained.

Informed consent may be sought at various stages of a patient’s treatment journey, with regular reviews conducted to ensure its ongoing relevance. Patients retain the absolute right to withhold consent if they choose not to proceed, as this decision is entirely voluntary.

Recognising and Responding to Acute Deterioration

At Townsville Day Surgery, our medical and support teams have a duty of care to identify and respond swiftly to changes in a patient’s physical, cognitive, or mental condition, known as acute deterioration. Providing timely and appropriate care is a key part of our system-wide approach to recognising and managing these situations.

Early detection is vital, as it can lead to better outcomes and minimise the level of intervention required. We prioritise identifying and addressing warning signs promptly, drawing on our comprehensive care framework and strong communication and documentation practices to ensure patient safety.

Our skilled healthcare team is highly trained to recognise the signs and symptoms of acute deterioration. Together with our robust safety and quality monitoring systems, we are well-equipped to detect and manage these situations effectively.
